Help on which Zinc Phosphate on bare mild steel

Hi all,
I've had a search but most of the results seem to be 'car' related

I want to make some gates/railings then coat them in a good zinc phosphate primer which I could spray them with prior to them being powder coated? Has anyone any experience in this type of work as I'd like a good zinc rich primer for rust prevention/protection but also won't have any adverse reactions when they're powder coated?

Zinc phosphate primer and zinc rich primer are different things.

Zinc phosphate helps the paint bite in to the metal.
Zinc rich provides cathodic protection but adhesion is typically not brilliant unless the metal is blasted.

You are best speaking to your powder coater as to what primer finish they would like.

The powder coater will blast and prime before coating as a matter of course if they are any good

why dont u just get them galvanised and give them one coat of high build vinyl from manor paints , thats what all the local gate and fence manafacturers do round our way. ive got 3 farm gates that are galv and havent been painted yet and there 30 years old and no rust . oneo these days i may paint them
