Hi. I'm new here so hi to all.
I've been TIG welding for a few years now. It's something I fell into. I usually do the same kind of stuff - I mean same kind of work, generally always 16G alu and 20G stainless corner welds. However, I have been given a task that involves 3mm alu butt welds and I'm thrown. Can anyone advise me on what size tungstens I should be using on this, should I use a bigger shroud? What size filler rod? What kind of gap? Any general tips, advice? I've practiced and the tungsten tip goes ball like but also turns black, is that normal? It tends to remain clean with the 16G. The shroud goes red hot too. I don't want to tell the boss I'm struggling.
Thanks for any advice.
