I am working on a project that involves building a fuel gas conditioning skid. The pipe specs run from 300# to 150#.
I have gotten some comments from from the engineers regarding the choice of weld connections to be used for piping, fitings and flanges.
Our customer specification suggests that piping and the fittings must be bevelled end, half coupling to be socket welded and flange to be slip-on raised face connection
However, our engineers suggests that the combination of connection used throughout are unusual and they suggest either to use buttweld for all pipe, flanges and fittings OR adopt socket weld for 1.5" and below and everything 2" above to be. Another point to be made is that the first option suggested by our engineer is the company's standard.
To me, I do not see the need to NOT follow the customer specification. I am not sure how the "unusual combination" will affect the manufacturing process or the integrity of the fuel gas skid. Though i agree that, if buttweld is to be used throughout, then it will provide a stronger connection.
Please advise
