heat heat heat (cherry red)...then these or vice gripsBest way to remove a couple snapped exhaust bolts of a motorcycle there’s approximately 1/4” left sticking out
M8 only got tig or ark if that’ll work for it?what size are they?
normal go to is put a nut on, fill inside the nut with weld - welding the stud to the nut and at the same time getting plenty of heat into it
then unscrew the nut and bring the stud out with it
No threads left doing it for someone who’s tried with a extractor and stripped them offTig should do it.
If the threads are good I would turn up a threaded drilling guide, 2mm pilot and 6.8mm, then peel out the remaining threaded coil.
Vice grips wont do it and stud extractors I tried were all rubbish. Ive had success using a small ER collet chuck on studs but Im not sure 1/4" length is enough for any extractor.
Would you weld a nut onto it or not?Tig is the way to go, if you have a foot pedal start off with low amps the get some heat in to the stud and head, then up the amps to weld, the heat cycle should break the rust bond and allow you to remove/unscrew the broken stud...
That’s what I thought originally but thought I’d ask as I’m doing it as a favour for someone elseWeld a nut on to it , as has been mentioned the heat will help
Build the end of the stud up a bit with weld[large blob is fine], that should put enough heat into it to loosen it and when it's cooled a bit get your mole wrench on it.Would you weld a nut onto it or not?
If you struggle for space with the arc, weld a decent washer to the stud first then a nut afterwardsIm assuming my ark will do save me putting the gas and water cooler in the car as I have to go to them or is it definitely tig
Will do just cba loading the big bottle and the water cooler plus a hour drive for something I’m doing as a favourIf you struggle for space with the arc, weld a decent washer to the stud first then a nut afterwards
This is always the sort of favour that bites me in the rear end. That’s what I thought originally but thought I’d ask as I’m doing it as a favour for someone else
