Thanks Norm..the guy I bought it off said that the caps had been changed but one of them looks new and the other doesn't? Any idea how I know which one is the run cap?
Swap them round, if the run cap is faulty then what will happen is the motor won't start as the run cap will now be the start cap but if you give it help starting ie start it spinning by hand(obviously watching your fingers) then it will run fine.




Running the motor without the belt it does get up to 2800 rpm but I can stall it with a piece of wood pressed on the pulley...not easily but I would have thought it should be very hard to stall a 3hp motor!
