Hi guys anybody up in gretna that might be able to help, I have a woman taking a car to edinburgh with a missfiring mk1 golf she left it idling and i think it has fueled a plug but she has no tools.

I have managed to get her to a garage now by the gretna retail park, by guiding her on google earth !!

Not gone now, shes staying in hotel and sending someone with trailer tomorrow.

No, I do work for a guy, his son is in scotland, I fitted an engine, built elsewhere, to his MINT mk1 golf, did brakes wheel brgs etc yesterday, drove it up to his home fine, one of his workers was going to take it up to scotland and meet the son, they were going to swap vehicles another mk1 and she would return in the other.
Its got a cam and high comp etc, but with bosch mech inj but sounded a little rich at the bottom to me but the engine man had run it up on the rollers, so should be fine. It did seem a little lumpy at 2-3k.She drove up at 60 /65 and she pulled off at gretna for a coffee and let it idle for a while.
Anyway when she restarted it and was off on no 4,she rang me because she was concerned, and i didnt want the bores washing , I told her to go to the shops and buy rubber gloves and I instructed her to do a lead pull over the phone!!! whilst I listened to the engine, tried also doing a lead stand off, to attempt to clear the plug but it wouldnt keep clean.
Managed to find a garage that was open and had to direct her using google earth, to the garage. I was talking to both her and the garage guy and he said OH i can hear it coming! whilst I was on the phone. He did a compression check and number 4 had nothing, weird how it has suddenly lost comp.
She is now in a hotel and we are sending someone up tomorrow the ironic thing was the other golf had broken down at the same time (not sure why) on the way to meet her fron ediburgh and had to be attended and recovered by AA so only one car covered.

Having a Scotch now instead of scotland,
the bottle was left out, in the kitchen, the missus has a cold and i did lemsip and scotch for her, its only Bells, cooking whisky as the scots call it, Well i'm not wasting my good stuff on her sniffles. and it saves me going into the dining room.

I usually do whiskey + hot water + lemon juice + teaspoon of honey, dunno if it actually helps her cold but after a few she stops caring about her cold

I just go to my garage or shed and leave her to it
ummm k jet, had some fun and games calibrating that before in mk2's mates one allways sufferd fuel distrobution issues across cyls and would pink on one cyl from time to time , mine allways struggeld to get enough fuel at the top end, so had to play around with system and controll pressures so that one allways ran a bit rich when cruseing around the 3000 rpm mark but it was the only way to get the fuel in it when flat out.
tho sudden loss of compression is never good
had that happen a couple of times on hot cammed engines, worst one was due to aftermarket lightweight valve spring retainer that turned out to be of dubious quality. the other was valve spring failure that one was a nice easy fix as no damage done to anythng else.
