Help I need some STIHL info.......

Ok lads and lady's.

Iv'e got this stihl saw thats been laid dead in the back of my yard and thought it would be interesting to resurect it.

Yes I could buy a new one or pay to get it fixed but what fun is that!!

Anyone got any got links or info on these??

Parts repair manuals ect??

Not sure but I remenber it was shelved due to the fact that it wouldn't start.
So probs gona rebuild the carb and look at the cylinder.
If the parts are cheep enough I may give it a full overhaul.

If you can find the series of the carb, then rebuild kits are cheap.

Most of my smaller carbs are Walbro 40 or 44. I get a generic kit with an assortment of gaskets and diaphragms for under $10.

The Stil is probably a bigger carb (62CC?). But most are the same.

A good small engine shop will have the parts.

In my case, most of mine are for R/C aircraft. I havea guy that knows these things inside/out and I just mention it and he'll send me gasket/diapgram sets.

Usually just taking the covers off the carbs and cleaning them out is enough.

Pull the plug and see if you can get a spark. The coils tend to short on these things.

Some of them old stihl were very hard to start when they had been left idle for a while what we used to do was taken off the air filters and pour about a spoon of petrol directly into the carburettor and give her a pull

There are kits on Ebay. Even Barrels and cylinders though maybe not original Sthil parts.

I have a Partner and after using Stihl for years I think the Partner is as good.

Thanks for all your help and advice folk's I'm working away at the minute so will make a start when I get back.

I've had a look on ebay and think I'll give it the full works............

Complete strip down and rebuild paint ect..........

Wonder if I can get an udgraded engine/ carb or owt??
