Lol, you could take that attitude with a lot of things in life but then you'd never learn or do anything.
Somethings are safer than others to mess about with
Personally think if you cant work something out like this you probably are not competent to read whats what then apply it in practice

Yes, I do agree but I'd like to think that most folk on here already know how to do basic safety checks, use a multimeter etc etc.

He's not messing with the gas or flu so worth a look anyday. I found the old boiler PCB was knackered on mine as when i tapped it the thing would fire up so a trip to CET to see the big man and one new board installed got it working.

The pump runs any time the boiler is lit. The burner heats the main heat exchanger and the pump then shoves hot (central heating) water either around the radiators OR round the silver heat exchanger depending on which way the diverter is set. Opening a hot tap should cause the diverter to switch to hot-water mode and send the CH water through the silver exchanger, which is a multi-plate job with alternating CH water and cold water feed plates so it gets cold water in and hot water out, the CH water just does a loop via the burner to keep it heated. If the heating is already running, the radiators don't get any hot water all the time the hot tap is running.
Normal thing to go wrong on these boilers is the diverter valve or one of the NTC's. The silver heat exchangers need a good de-scale every year or so down our way too.

Without adding to the complicated Riemann Hypothesis and making it worse i will say that i bet the problem is in the PCB...ive had 2 go bad and both times fixed by a TV electronics engineer who spent an hour going through every joint on the board till he found the problem and worked out much less than a new factory board...did i just add to the problem with this?

I think the condensate leaked, rotting the water pipes and gas pipe plus the diverter popped

Having fitted a number of kitchens around boilers seems they have a habbit of devoloping a leak from the slightest touch when you least need it

went to a house today to fix a cooker hood she had another electrician change a cooker unit and it supposedly went bang just as he left and she blamed him . hardly likely i said more than likely a bulb has gone and popped the fuse in the spur behind the chimney on it . surely enough it had . nowt to do with him but it just goes to show
