Hi folks, I could really use some help sorting out my 'new' plasma. I got it on ebay for virtually nothing, so I'm not too bothered if its dead.
It seems to have several probs.
1. It won't fire up due to the air pressure cut-out light being 'on'. (Also, air constantly leaks from the torch, so maybe the solenoid is not working?). I bypassed the pressure sensor with a wire, just to see if the machine would fire up if the air supply was good, and it does seem to (see pic).
2. The torch came without all the bits in the end (electrode etc), so I tried to fit some from my other little plasma - a sureweld one with the built in compressor - but no joy. I'm convinced the parts don't fit. I can't identify which spares to buy for this torch (so many with these red plastic handles look the same!). I don't even know if its HF start or some kind of contact start, or if its a drag cup type or just manual stand-off.
Since I can't get the torch sorted, its impossible to test the machine. Anyone got any ideas at all? I was hoping someone could tell me by looking at the pics if there is an HF transformer in there. I thought about buying a cheapo chinese torch from ebay to test it with. (I know...). Do the number of wires going into the torch tell me anything about its operation?
The makers don't exist any more, and even the company on the 'sellers label' are about as much use as a chocolate teapot, so you guys are my last hope!
Cheers, Al.
