Update:
Bedroom lights were on same circuit as garage so they are back on now too
The 2 lights in the hall and the bathroom lights were the ones with the burnt/brittle roses so new roses fitted to clean wire and fitted a new extractor fan while I was at it, old one packed up months ago. One of those next time I have a minute jobs
Put the second wire back and switched on the power, thought I'd cracked it but after 7/8 seconds tripped again
Now I'm confused, before it would trip immediately but now takes 7 to 8 seconds. The switches all looked good with no sign of heat. Would taking the switches out one by one get me anywhere?
