Aaaargh!
Wrong time of year for the boiler to die....anyway, I've flushed out everything twice, changed the pump and finally deduced that the heat exchanger is clogged. Pulled the Ali casting out of the boiler (British Gas 330+ model, conventional vented system) and the insides are gummed up with the blue-ish white crud that doesn't seem to be affected by vinegar or citric acid. I assume this suggests that it has been run without Fernox 1 and has corroded the ali inside? The F&E tank in the loft also has a pile of similar crud at the bottom. The tank in the loft is well hidden, hence I had left it to the plumber to play with when we had an extension added 2 years ago.
Any suggestions for clearing the exchanger out?
Chuffin' cold here today!
