Depends what amps you are welding at, the cheaper helmets are ok but dont work at less than 30 amps, I think the Parweld one is the best value on the market, comes with 18 month warranty we sell 400 a year and get less than a 1% return rate

This is just my opinion but.....
Your helmet is the number one piece of safety gear you will buy...... you can only afford to pay for quality and not waste your money on second rate gear.
That's very true Lorenzo, but you try squeezing twice as much out of a UK punter than they need to spend!
(probably also true in the US).
The Parweld model @<£60 comes from a reputable wholesaler with full safety specifications & does the job. A major brand leader; Speedglas, ESAB, Jackson etc. is at least twice the price, sometimes more than 3x the price! The discerning professional (or individual) will pay top dollar for quality, but, increasingly (even professionals) now demand 'price'. A sad fact, but there's China's influence for you on global price deflation. We'll all be working for a bowl of rice a day before long!!

I had a Jackson executive.......... variable shade blah, blah, blah..... I left it on the track of a machine and well 35 tons later and there really wasn't much left of it. I have yet to replace it.........
I have not replaced it because I found that for me they are too delicate.... I can't be worrying about the cartridge getting damaged from a fall or from being knocked to the ground......... so I have gone back to using a conventional Jackson hood since. As well as the pricing..... they're just too expensive....... and I could buy a cheap one just to buy one, just to have one but I won't.
If you NEED to buy one then you need to buy a good one......... if you would LIKE to buy one then in my opinion there are other places I could better spend my money..... again just my opinion.

I've always been of the opinion to buy the best that you can afford, for all tools and appliances. There are times when you have to compromise but only after really careful consideration, and as it's the eyes we are talking about here, be very careful.
I speak as one who after my time at a teacher training college (specialist subjects - handicrafts i.e. woodwork and metalwork) went on to work as a shipwright and had to buy a few more tools than I already had. Though I didn't earn that much I would save to buy the best and still have most of them, in good working order, after 40 years. The cheapo ones that I bought in a hurry for the odd job never did last the course and failed when I needed them most.
I also try to avoid the 'multi-purpose' tools as most don't seem to do any of the things they are supposed to do very well.
