Hey all,
I've been trying to get to grips with plasma cutting .... my freehand is poop still but I'm getting there.
One thing I am stuck with is protection for my eyes....
Some say use glasses, some say use a helmet, all different recommendations for shade from 5 to 9 depending on where I look.
For shade I am just going to go as dark as possible while still being able to see.
The method of applying that shade however I have found more difficult. I wear glasses so specs, goggles and the like are out for me. That just leaves helmets.
I have both a Clarke GWH6 and a Parweld XR950a . The Parweld seems to flick on and off like mad when I use it with plasma for some reason. it was an expensive helmet (for me) so I am confused as to why it can't handle plasma even though it has a dual shade range ADF. If it can't do plasma, what else could the shade 5,6 7, etc be for?
The Clarke is more reliable with plasma, although not perfect, it also flicks on and off sometimes. The main issue is that shade 9 (its minimum) is too dark.
They both have a light state of shade 4 which isn't really enough.
My plasma cuter only goes up to 40amps max and I'm cutting steel and stainless mainly.
The machine is an XTM221di from Parweld, who were not that helpful when it comes to what eye protection to wear.
Any help appreciated. Ideally I would like to get the Parweld to work but no idea if that's even possible.
