Just found this site. Looks like a lot of good info here.
I'm Alex and below is why I had to learn to weld.
I have a crappy wire feed 115v buzz box but it does okay. Just can't seem to convice Mrs. Wildcat that she needs a new 220v mig.

Below is the best pic of one of my welds. (About a year ago) I've improved some since. And ya I didn't clean all the slag off yet in the pic. This was taken just to show the progress of my bumper build.

Welcome to the forum. Love the wide track on your car - looks like it wasn't originally built that way.

That's thick stuff you are welding - excellent justification for a bigger welder. Tell the missus we said so.

Now that I am into MIG I realise one of the hidden benefits is no slag to chip, tell her indoors that you want to hang up your chisel.

I have Toyota axles under the Sammy and the missus said don't give me any encouragenment

Toyota axles are the best, I can pick up a land rover axle, it takes at least Two to do the toyota. I have an 80 series Toyota cruiser, nice vehicle for a bit of travel.

I also have a 260A arc welder and am about to buy a MIG, My wife does not mind.

I'm building an onboard welder with an old 200amp alternator I have sitting around. I'll have good weld power but I'll have to start my rig every time I want to weld more than 1/4 inch.
