Hello from Australia

Hi There, I am from Sunny Queensland Australia. I have very recently purchased a Unimig procraft 240 (due to budget constraints and a really good deal). I am here to learn, having just done my first mig welds a couple of days ago. I am going to restore a mk1 golf and am keen to get a bit of experience up first. Got my E size migshied bottle, auto mask, .8 wire (may get some .6), gloves, so there are no excuses now! (well i am a little short on scrap to practice on). The site has been really good and there is some really useful advice. Looking forward to posting up some of my first welds so you can have giggle.

Thanks for the welcome. Well not many pics at the moment (are you a golf fan?), it is a bare shell going to take my time this time around (this is going to be a loooong term project).

Here was my previous car, they didn't bring out the mk1 gti to Australia (not a very common car here) so i made a replica of the car i wanted, built it when i was 19 (everything except the bodywork (so basically just mechanical stuff)).....I missed it so much i had to go out and buy another project golf and this time i am going to do the whole thing including the bodywork (yeah i got problems).

Hey Dan, great looking project, please keep us updated with your progress.

Had some Mk2 Gti's back in the day, but also have a soft spot for the Mk1s. Your replica looks very nice

Cheers..I have a mk2 gti (8v) as my daily transport, it feels very modern compared to the mk1 . Will post up as i go but don't hold your breath for rapid progress, I will chip away at it slowly, i am on a tight budget (wife is watching my every move......)
