Hi Guys,

I have joined this forum to pick up lots of tips from you guys.

The missus says I'm having a mid life crisis as I have the urge to get back into bikes. Its over 25 years since I rode a bike and I'm not really into these screaming death machines that look like some kind of alien bug. I prefer the classic bikes (nostalgia is a wonderful thing) so thought I would set about building a chopper. Never done it before and I don't know what came over me but I have started and and now wondering how the hell I'm going to complete it.

So I guess I will be bugging you guys for help and tips on the welding front. I did do an apprenticeship millions of years ago where I learned to Oxy and Arc Weld (Mig wasn't aroundin those days) so I'm back to learning the basics but hopefully it will be like riding a bike (mind you I've fallen off loads of times)

Great intro mate, welcome.

This sounds mint.......... Building a chopper, i love it!
i'd like to see your progress as my brother has been banging on about making a mini chopper for a while now, I blame it on Discovery! (Bloody American Chopper)!! Mabey you could post some usefull info that i could show him to get him off his bum and do something rather than watch the telly and fantisise over doing it!

Most motorcycle frames seem to be tig welded these days - the welds look really pretty. MIG can put too much filler wire in if you aren't careful. Mind you, if you are careful and practice a lot on scrap tube you should find a setting that looks neat. Sounds like a fun project. Feel free to ask away if you need any help.
