Hello, I'm new here although have been browsing this great forum for some time. I'm retired and am restoring a frogeye Sprite. I've done a lot of mechanical work but now need to do some bodywork hence the need for Mig welding. I'm not welding the floor - too far gone and beyond my resources, so am getting a new basic bodyshell to which I'll weld the back end plus I'll renovate bonnet / front wings.
I was given an ageing Elektra Beckum MIG 100 which works so I've been practising (with Argon/ CO2). However, on attempting to replace the wire it stuck in the gun and I ended taking it apart. Big mistake..... I got it back together eventually (although the electrical connection is ropy). but the wire feed is still sticking and my impression is the gun and liner has seen better days.
So my question is - is this model a piece of junk and should I get something better or is it worth replacing the gun (it's not Euro). Any replies would be much appreciated. Regards. Bill.
