Seems a nice matey place, so I might as well say "Hi" as well for my first post. Been lurking on the outside looking in for a while before dipping into the forums proper.

Bought my first MIG set a few weeks ago (Cosmo 130 from Comet £100) to splat on a steel bracket onto the Stainless exhaust under my Volvo XC70, it had rusted off (what a surprise). As you can understand, I was very dubious about doing this job after reading copious amounts of great advice here. I'd been doing arc welding before (nice and thick) with garden fence grade results and it still keeps the dogs out.

So I bought the leather gauntlets and a ESAB auto helmet (more advice from here and I have a dinky cheapo SIP that I learnt arc-eye on), jacked up the car, disconnected the battery, clamped on the electrode (POS as I'm using Gasless 0.8mm), hit the box up to max and speed down to about 3 or 4.

Hey Presto! It turns out that I could do it, even crawling upside down under the car. No need to post the result photo here (!) but you can imagine that it's not fallen off and the MOT cert is in my sticky paws.

I've been looking at the various mods ciculating for the SIP/Cosmo wire feed control. I have electronics design experience and I happen to have a really neat pulse-MOSFET speed control design on my test bench that I might be able to sqeeze into the box and sort out the problems users have been having. If it works I'll post it up but don't hold your breath as I do have a life.

Now I'm a MIG expert, I'm off to buy a Synergic Pulse 200 from someone who is doing a deal I can't refuse....if only I could afford the gas as well!! We can all dream I suppose!
