hi all,
new to this tig game and wondering if anyone can answer this for me please. i priced argoshield at boc and they want £50.00 per bottle and £60 per year rental,however i can get helium for £20.00 a bottle with no rental through a friends company will this work?

Not if it's balloon helium as that contains loads of air too so people don't die when doing chipmonk impressions.

Welding grade helium is a LOT more expensive than argon and because it's lighter than air looking at flow rates approaching double that needed with argon. Helium is a 'hotter' gas in that arc voltage is higher, also harder to strike an arc because of this (ionization potentials or something complicated)

Check out the gas suppliers thread, various other options other than BOC and despite the BOC special offer only applying to MIG mixes (and having expired) you can get a discount with a 5 min phone call.

it wont work atall will blow baloons up ok and make u talk like pinky and perkly if u inhale it cheapest method is get a brewery cylinder of c o2 if u can but argoshield gives better results u get what u pay for

not so bright this evening then brightspark, it`s in the tig section, and he`s tig welding, so thats a no for co2 and argoshield as well
