I meant that the first three positions of the voltage step switch, which do work, will probably allow you to weld in the range from 30 to 100 Amps, covering steel thickness of 1 to 3 mm. Then there will be a gap, for the defective switch positions 4 and 5. Starting again with pos. 6 and 7 giving about 160 and 180 Amps, and good for 5 to 6 mm thickness.
The torch tip voltages that you measured correspond quite closely with the data plate, which states "22 to 38 Volts"

I think there are a few more tests what you had advised to the previous owner which I am planning to do. It’s just a case of when!
