I am thinking of getting one of these from Machine Mart. I have a Mini to rebuild and it is on a spit outdoors. It requires the normal welding a 1990 Mini needs and so I thought to help protect from the wind & weather as well as shield the welding arcs this might do the job. Has anybody bought and used one or had/seen one being used for this sort of work. All thoughts much appreciated.

They are like kites, one good gust and its off flying down the road, they are hard as hell to keep from flying away , and also the rain tends to pool and collapse the frame due to the weight, they are made in china and are of crap quality, the pop up gazebo is better, take it down every day, and put it up when needed. Can't you borrow a garage, or get it in the dry???

I have a 6 x 3 metre Gazeebo. I also moved out of my unit a few month ago and still have an unfinished Recovery truck that needs a few bits of welding on it and then some paint. In this weather its almost wet everyday so I stuck up the gazzebow as it was a light breeze...it lasted 20 mins before it was obvious my project finishing will need to wait for the better weather. (Unless I sell it unfinished.) I have looked at a few other options but nothing is stable enough that the local council wont get annoyed with.....

You'd do far better to construct a temporary shelter using scaffold tubes and HEAVY tarpaulins. Also lace over the tarps with rope to stop it billowing. The tubes can be well anchored and if you are cunning can also act as useful sky hooks for the odd bit of lifting

m289 read through the link. Seems to be 50/50
Dr Nik I have a gazebo but I do not think it will do the job long term. Realistically it will be up for 3 months or so! Also at 3m square it is a little big.
It will be sited in front of my garage on the front drive so will be semi shielded from most winds. MM I notice do a smaller one for motor bikes, the best size I think being 12x12x81/2 ft.
Getting good proper tarpaulins is a nightmare. I would not know where to start!

A friend of mine keeps his 80k car in one and has never had a problem, I've seen it and it seems fine.

I wouldn't grind, cut or weld in it - I think it wouldn't stay waterproof for long if I did

Getting good proper tarpaulins is a nightmare. I would not know where to start!

Local company to me http://www.uktarps.com/ very helpful and the Toughtop tarpaulins are really strong.
