Heating my Unit

Hello!

I currently rent out a 4000sqft 100% Unit, built from concrete and steel for Personal storage and as a workshop.

Currently, its Farking cold! and i hardly want to be down there and seems a waste renting it out.

I received a space heater couple weeks ago Rated for 25,000 BTU, its a small Sealey Propane heater.

Now, as expected, it doesnt heat the unit at all! even when pointed in my general direction, it takes the edge off the cold and thats about it.

Heres some pictures...

Im after the cheapest way to heat this place!

any ideas?

Section off the bit you want to work in and then heat just that using the propex heater. That place will cost a lot and take ages to heat.

And in that last picture are you cutting the roof off the clio with a handsaw?

Bladdy heck, it must be cheap rent or your rolling in it !! Out of curiosity how much are you paying ?
Asking because I need to do the same thing, I have a serious overflow of stuff and have just lost some space at a mates unit as he's moved area.

Id rather not disclose how much im paying, as you would mostly likely keel over...

I had planned to get some of those Mesh fence panels and secure some sheets to it, then make myself a small box room, that be the best way?

And yes, he is cutting the roof off with a woodsaw, he isnt the brightest of people, although, he did succed with cutting an exhaust off with a woodsaw.....thats some feat!

the shutter doors are wide open and letting all the cold air in.
get some plastic strips hanging down over the door space when its open
- section off area you work in the most and it should be warmer with a heater.
-get some carpet/wood to lay on work floor as cold feet are bad to have.
-get a wood burner and lots of wood, this should give off good heat.
-make/get an oil burner- gives off good heat.

looks a good size of place to work in,
you could rent out space if sectioned off

Pictures were take Mid-Summer, it currently hoses around 16 cars....

I need a more efficient heater, as the propane is costing me £25/6kg (Calor)

Even just a tarpaulin will do as a starter to section it off
Get some market stall type clamps and you could hang it off those beams, and move it about the place if you're working on different things

same as above really if you can section off the area your working in and heat that it will be a lot easier to heat, such a big empty space is going to take a lot of work to heat up and keep it warm.

alternativly some crazier ideas for consideration.
- wear heated clothes like the ones you can get from maplins.
- put about 4 layers on and plenty of manual work.
- set one of the 16 cars on fire (NOT recomeneded)

25000 btu will never warm that place!
My unit is only 400 sq feet and my 35000 btu Propane space heater hardly gets that warm!
How about making a Log burner? Plenty of designs on this forum

Looks nice and big does that unit. I have a similar issue but thats because my gas is cold/frozen. I just go for the body warmer and loads of layers. Tried a diesel heater which worked but the fumes caused asthma issues so not worth that now. I'd say a space heater but you will need a big heater

how about info-red heaters i think there the ones that heat you and not the air put it on a mobile stand so you can move it to where you are working

correct but buy the real ones not cheap tack for 20 quid mickey mouse look alikes the proper 3 kw quartz halogen will be about over £100

you will never successfully heat that place imo.

its big, concrete, single pane, steel frame windows etc

the most you'll ever do is take the chill out of there. which is all u need when your working i reckon.

Im now on the look out for 2 Mesh fence panels, Will use some timer for roof supports and drop some sheets down each panel, then have another sheet either end for access.

Just finding panels now...

Get big bottles of gas while you look, we pay about £55 for one that stands 4 foot high...

Infra red heater. Heats you, not the air, which is fine as long as you can see it
