It's a combi boiler. No hot water tank.

Isolate the Hive stuff in order to check basic heating/boiler operation.

I can remove the hive receiver this evening. I can then put a temperature probe on the radiator to log the highest measured temp overnight.

As said above I have taken the hive thermostat out of play by disconnecting the receiver.

The boiler is a Vaillant EcoTec Plus 831 by the way.

Blocked system, air lock? Can you operate the heating without the Hive to eliminate that?

I bled one radiator yesterday and recovered a bit of air. I will have to do an upstairs one

how is your hot water heated?

ours was doing the same, turns out it was coming on to heat the hot water to make sure there's no legionella

even tho we had it heating hot water a couple of times a day for 2 hours a time

can't remember where the menu is, google says it's...

Settings > Equipment > Bacteria Prevention menu on the thermostat


EDIT: sorry ignore me, I missed the bit about it's a combi boiler... could check to make sure thermostat knows that I guess

rad temp womt be lowest point underfloors or in lofts with uninsulated pipes are the coldest pipes

but inside your boiler will be due to being external points via the flue

If the boiler is heating stored water which then reaches tempreture and shuts off , tge boiler then dumps latent heat to the heating system , could be that that your feeling out of the timed heating period
