Heating a Parts Washer?

I can pick that up cheap, So worth a go! I know they do a few versions. Some are a nasty concentrated solution

yep I have some put it in a pot and painted it on some parts neat cold it softened the paint and burnt my hand lol

Which I understand should be a very aggressive degreaser. Haven't actually tried it yet, need to top up on so e additional safety gear!

Incidentally, increasing the temperature for many of these chemical processes is the single most dramatic improvement you can make.

I need to find an effective solution, As this whole degreasing situation is becoming a regular thing where brake cleaner just isn't cutting it. I just want to leave the stuff to soak. Then rinse off afterwards

Oh I did my research, it will degrease parts all right. Wouldn't be surprised if it is the secret sauce in any number of expensive brand name cleaners. The trick is to discover what concentration, timings, post treatment and of course what it might do to various metals/alloys etc.

A chemistry technician told me as a rule of thumb, increasing temperature by 25 degrees will roughly double the rate of most reactions so it stands to reason that a heated cleaner will make a hell of a difference.

The boiling point of your solvent I suppose, or just too hot for you to scrub the part.

If I can see heat coming off the solvent I would say its going to be hot enough!

An old deep fat fryer would have all the necessary components to heat a parts washer.

I have a old kettle kicking around with a 240V heating element, Would it be safe to use in a tank? My thoughts are to leave it on until it reaches temperature, Then turn it off.

Is it a bad idea?

If you put a kettle next to your parts washer, boil it, and then see how long it takes to cool back down again, I think you will have your answer.

I've got a heated ultrasonic cleaner and the grease just flies off. Not sure if it's the heat or the ultrasonic that makes that happen, should try it one day with the ultrasonic switched off.

I would imagine its a combination that helps!

Yes, it comes with a seal, you do need a theromost or simmerstat or it will boil

I don't think using a kettle heating element is going to work, As the electrical connections need to be on the outside & not in contact with the solution
