Hearing aids

My old man is struggling with the imminent death of my mom. He just sits there in his chair.
We are struggling to speak to him as he can't hear.
He has got an NHS hearing aid but it's useless and he is too ill to go and get another test etc.

Don't suppose any one on here has used them or has any other advice?

I’ve not used the ones you have linked to but now use NHS ones, I did a bit of research when I was told I would need them and from that the in ear, out of sight ones are not as good as the in the around the back of the ear. A mate also has them and gone private he has gone from in ear to outside for better sound pick up and his cost thousand of pounds.

I would be tempted to call the local NHS hearing department, they may be willing to just test the hearing aid to check it it still working and fix it if required. They can plug mine into a PC and adjust the volume.

I use the QE in Birmingham, they have been very helpful.

Dad's not willing (or able) to pay thousands. He's 87 now and loosing the will to live since mom's stroke.
I was thinking a 100 is not expensive and it comes with a money back guarantee.....but I have also heard round the ear is better.... I also heard that many sellers inflate the price of cheap ones to make you think they "must" be good at that price.

Apparently he has NHS ones but has lost one. They want 100 quid to replace it . I am.going over to sit with Mom for a few hours now so will test the one he has left to see if its working.

National health aids are the same technology as the expensive private ones, you pay the big money for the private ones because they are more discreet, behind the ear are by far the best if the hearing is poor.
( Have you checked the obvious.... new batteries.)

Not yet mate....that's my next port of call.

Household/contents insurance might cover cost of new earing aid.

Apparently he has already purchased a replacement but it's not been calibrated.

But to be honest that's the least of his worries as my mom.passed away in the early hours and it's knocked him for 6 despite knowing it was going to happen.

It's strangely a massive relief what they put her through for 14 days was insane.
I have never seen or heard of someone being deprived of food and water for so.long. it's time they got the priorities correct.

They done the same with my mother mate..stopped giving her fluids and food and the hard old bat still took 4 days to die. Ward sister as much told me its normal in the last days to hurry it on.

It is very frustrating having a slow loss of a loved one, very sorry for your loss give your dad a good hug.

If only. This was 2 weeks tomorrow they switched her to GSF Red.

What I fail to comprehend is why first of all I had never heard about this, before I experienced it. And two why if THEY make the decision as opposed to an external source, they can't assist them to pass away peacefully.
