There's a story on the BBC website about a ground technician being sucked in to the jet engine of a passenger jet at an airport (he's dead).
It reports that the same thing happened out there a while ago, at which time the airline was fined the staggering sum of..... £12,300.
Let's just hope the engines were OK .

For which I reckon they took a running jump into it . . . ?

The earlier one had conflicting reports - staff jumped the gun in approaching the aircraft or the company didn't have good enough safety procedures - they were fined the maximum penalty at the time.

How can the employer control what the employee did on the tarmac ?

They can educate, they can warn, they can follow every procedure to the letter,
but can't physically stop access.

Or can they somehow ?

That fine does look low, I have seen $250k for falling off a roof, when employer did not supply proper protection, PPE etc.

Like how Massive the engine was or how small the American was?
Maybe in future they should only hire Walmart customers, because from what I can gather most wouldn’t fit in a standard size jet engine

According to pprune (professional pilots forum) the guy left a suicide note so probably not H&S issue.
That said, if I had to chose a way to go, this probably wouldn’t make the top ten.

Pretty sad if that indeed was the case. Jeez, you really must be in a bad place if a jet engine seems like a good idea

I have heard....that at the Erie Forge melt shop hall (now torn down)
One person stepped off into the 100 ton furnace.

It’s quite clear your not an accident investigator

Finding out the reason quite often prevents further tragic incidents

An aircraft on the apron should only be at 'ground idle' the danger areas are 4 meter semi circle in front for ingestion and 60 metres behind for jet blast (if you can keep your eyes open)

This is what I kinda figured with the low fine.
If it is true, the employer really shouldn't get any fine.
And they now have to take the plane out of service, and have that engine torn down
for inspection.

no one in there right mind would walk in front of a running jet engine or a propeller unless they wernt properly trained or hadnt a clue . suicide no one can stop it

I could see surprise random drug & alcohol testing, but mental health status evaluations every 6 months or so ?

Hi, not specific to the aviation industry but generally employers should do if they want an effective workforce.

Having unstable workers throwing themselves into running jet engines should hardly be encouraged.

That's what compassionate leave is for.
