as goes for laptop get it into safe mode and reset it again then it will be fine or remove your driver in safe mode it will force it to reinstall the driver and set the screen correct again

I would download the latest even if you have a version already as there may be updates. I did look and looks like HP didn’t release drivers past Win7 for your model unfortunately. But apparently it has an AMD Radeon HD 6650M and you may be able to find drivers for if the driver detect tool doesn’t work.

I am having a gut feeling that might well be my issue.

There are no beeps when connecting.

One issue I have is it works as a laptop with Intel HD drivers installed (default) and AMD radeone drivers installed.

If I delete the display drivers it defaults to generic HD display until I update and then it sticks intel HD drivers back in.
Using AMD Catalyst software it detects and installs drivers.

It's extremely weird .especially as it's a pavillion DV6 and HP don't seem to have any drivers for it at all.

DV6 is a family and they fit various options and I can't see what specs this laptop actually has fitted.

If you go to device manager and then properties of the graphics card, I seem to remember it is the last tab on the right which has the drop down menu where you can list the vendor id and the device id. Intel usually use the vendor id of 8086. I don't know the AMD one off hand, but there used to be a website called the pcidatabase which lists them all if it still exists.

One for battery saving and one for performance.
You will probably need to enable the performance one to get the hdmi port live.

If you open an HD video or a game it should enable automatically.
For testing you will probably have to do it manually via the "catalyst control center" software.
Should be accessible from a right click on the desktop.
You might find the laptop needs to be plugged in as well rather than just running on battery.

It's real weird as the Intel drivers install and only one card shows in control panel.
I can get the other card working but it seems random.
Can't find any AMD card when I use catalyst software to install it....the trouble shooting suggests installing the driver without the catalyst software but it seems to only come in the software package.

The amd card might well not show up in control panel as its hardware controlled so won't actually be powered on until it's needed.
I think (if you have reinstalled windows) you will need to install the correct catalyst software package then when that software turns the card on for the first time it will automatically get installed.
If it's not a new install, remove any drivers that you have tried to install today and go into the catalyst software and manually turn the card on.

back onto this again..lol mainly because fusion does not like the intel drivers. I reinstalled windows last weekend and both cards were installed. But when I turned it on tonight the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 Graphics had gone from device manager.

sadly I told you the wrong card. its actually ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 Graphics (switchable).

I reinstalled windows 10 (it came with windows 7) but worked fine with windows 10 until fusion got upset at the intel graphics card.

when I re installed win 10 last weekend both card showed in device manager. But opening the computer tonight this one ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 Graphics (switchable) has disappeared.

Standard laptops tend to use an integrated Intel graphics card, those that are meant for graphics intensive tasks such as gaming and CAD sometimes come with two like yours appears to have. I suspect only your Intel one is working properly, need to look for correct drivers I suspect. Pavilion DV6 covers quite a few p gcmodels so you need to find the specific one. I’d try HP’s support site and try and find your specific model.

Update...now I have had enough of trying to get windows 10 working on my old laptop Hp pavilion DV6-3150SA it seems HP had deleted all remnants of support for Windows 7 off their website.


Are there any driver sites that can be trusted?
I can't use the ATI catalyst as it only shows details of the Intel drivers in control panel.

Seems like Windows 7 is not only not supported by Microsoft but its being dumped by hardware suppliers.

Installed a fresh windows 7 and can't get windows to update at all.
Graphics drivers wont install correctly and to top it all the screen goes blank for a millisecond and comes back on. It does this constantly.

I also found that Firefox has stopped supporting windows 7 and you have to install ESL release and I can only find 32 bit version.

116 and up.wont install now and it's the only 64bit I can find.

It's becoming an absolute minefield now. Finding a decent second had laptop on Facebook is fraught with danger especially as the specs are difficult to read and understand (well they are to me anyway.

Anyone else have problems?

you can still find drivers for your model as they will exist elsewhere its up to you to make sure you have a good anti virus and firewall to protect you if it has anything in it it will quarantine it
