Having trouble with co2

Hi all I recently bought myself a second hand clarke 151 mig welder to learn with and the guy gave me two co2 pub bottles which had been sat in the corner of his garage now Ive had them sat a few weeks I can't get the valves on them to open is there a certain way of opening or just turn

I don't think there is any fancy way to open them, probably just stiff. Try both ways as they could open/close the opposite way but I'd be doubtful that a valve would have this arrangement (I've seen left hand threads on connectors, but valves are pretty standard clockwise to shut and anti to open).

My pub bottle valve is anti-clockwise to open, just turn them like a tap.

Are the bottles empty with the valves fully open anyway?

Thanks for the replies Ive tried them both again and one moved a fraction but no gas as come out but they were both fine when I bought the welder has he tried them both and both regs say there's gas in both

Have you got a reading on the contents gauges? In which case the cyclinder valve will be open.

Is it the regulator you're talking about? In that case it's clockwise to open (ie increase pressure). If you turn the regulator fully anticlockwise it may cut off.

I've been back to have a better look while kids are out and there is no reading on either of the regs it was the angle of me looking at them but both regs screw in and out quite easy
