the trouble is on site building firms allways want a fixed price because 90 percent of lads on site take the **** if its an hourly rate. late starts extra time for breaks and early finishes I had a brickie working for me and took the **** on hourly rate . well tried to but it didn't work. I give him a price job 80 quid a day 2 days work . funny how he got it done in a day and a half on price. I give prices for a decent days work and if I care to motor on fast and not bother with breaks I can score extra

You say the first guy quoted £300 for laying 2300 bricks? That guy's a loony, or was very desperate then found some better-paying work. If the guy is billing you £700 for 2300 bricks and you say he's done a good job, I'd say just pay him and be satisfied, it's a good price IMO.

yep iff the works spot on then never mind what the 1st muppit qouted as its well under priced and thats why he never took it on...around here its £450 per thou for a decent bricky and thats what i gladly pay for good work...in a short,as above and cough up.
