Hatred for acrylic paints.

Please please people,
Dont use single pack or acrylic paints unless your willing to leave it forever and a day to dry.

Due to not trusting the product on the bonnet due to crazy cracking shrinkage (suspected) it's now a bare metal job to give me a chance at a decent finish

But now I have really nice octarel 2k primer and 2k paint in the right paint code to lay a decent base till end of next year when will be repainted.

Hmm, I painted my hot rod with acrylics and never had a problem. Surprisingly, as it was a bit amateurish, with glitter in the clear coat to make it metalflake. It lasted 3 years in the blistering asian sunshine, so I was happy.

So 5hrs on a da and a box of discs later,
Got it all back to bare metal and prepped ready for primer.

Also got the vents and a few other bits ready for primer.

But then messed up. Mixed the primer as hs 4.1 rather than the hs420 6.1 it needed and flashed off far too fast and semi set in the gun which ment I only got one coat on all of it

So need to re flat it off and flash it over again. Which will be a job for evenings in the next week.

So flatted all the panels back last night and my mixing cups turned up today. Winner!!

So degrease and edge prep and remixed some primer ready to go again.

So much happier with the results tonight

I painted my fathers rear bumper in acrylics and it's done exactly the same, looks like crazy paving. When I get a chance to I'll be stripping it down and going back to 2K as I never had the issue using 2K paint..

So flatted the primer wednesday and thursday, picked up the hardener yesterday. Prepped the edges and degreese, and nice and early this morning before the mrs was awake jumped in the garage and fired some colour around.

Got a couple of shifts on the small vents due to so many angles. Should have painted them flat but didnt have room so will make do.

Plus the bonus is that it only is a cover coat as next year the whole car is to be blown over in base and lacquer.

So its tacked off and left a really nice deep shine straight off the gun. Will be left alone till at least tomorrow morning though before being moved just to make sure its cured.

Then will get colour sanded probably in 1500, then 3000 trisac then will be polished up.
