The master cylinder is inside the box section with access from above by removing a bit of floor. The jokers at BMC put the bolts, which go right through the box section in, so that the heads are behind the torsion bar, so you either had to saw the bolt heads off or remove the torsion bar to get the bolts out. Had they put the bolts in from the other side it would be no problem to remove them.

That's right, the filler is under the carpet, underneath, a sod, from underneath.

You ended up with bigger muscles on your right leg because you had to try and stop it. My old neighbour re wooded his Traveller and ended up with three reverse and one forward gear. No prizes for guessing what he did.

Having had both i cannot agree, the peugot got to 85 thousand miles & all of a sudden became a clowns car, everything went wrong at once & it dropped pieces of itself everywhere, literally started falling to bits. Maybe we had the friday one but never again!

I had a customer with one, a 1998 2.1 diesel. At 375k on the clock, it needed an injector pump, only major repair it had. Overall in very good condition. I'd have one for sure.

A Morris... errr no thanks.

A 406 would be cheap to run, and at this point it's probably near its maximum depreciation so unlikely to lose much in its value. I've worked on plenty and found them easy to fix, but i'm a mechanic by trade so not comparable to a DIYer.

I can't see the Morris being nice to drive, in any way refined or comfortable or particularly reliable.

To each their own though, they're not my kind of vehicle. I'll stick to diesel estates and Sprinters.

Crow bar, and bend the torsion bar, is what my brother taught me. My brother's not a mechanic per se.

He managed to do an oil change, without refitting the sump plug. Left a trail of oil 100 meters down the road, before coming back when the oil pressure light came on.

Pug 406's seem to be the garagists car of choice, I have it on authority the two litre HDI is basically indestructible.

But moggy minors, it's a question of style and class, modern cars, air con, power steering, comfort, power, brakes, sooo over rated.

Wouldn't want to drive one as a day to day, but hey...

There was an ex-BT Morris Minor van on Bangers and Cash a week or two back. It was immaculate and went for a bundle, well over 10k i think. The value will only increase too.

The Moggy Minor Centre Near bath used to do that. Plus they sold the kits to do it your self.

Near me is a Moggy fitted with disc brakes with a Morris Marina engine and gear box.

Morris did make a bigger version, the MO Oxford, almost identical body style, but fitted it with a bigger side valve engine, so I doubt if it was a lot faster.

The old answer to the braking problem was to fit Wolseley 1500 front brakes on. They bolted directly on & gave superb brakes. I know they are now like hens teeth, & have been superseded by disc conversions but when I had a hot series 2 Minor it was all that was available.

We fitted a disc kit to a friends Moggy woody. It used modified Sierra callipers and a mod to the master cylinder. It was a massive improvement. Moggy was the first car I had when I passed my test.

Someone local to me bought a Minor with a disc conversion on, the previous owner fitted it & couldn’t get it to work,, it wouldn’t bleed. When the new owner looked at it, the callipers were fitted on the wrong sides, right on left, left on right. This put the bleed nipples on the bottom, hose at the top, no wonder it won’t bleed, the guy swapped them round & all sorted.
