I first came across unisex toilets in a ski resort in france , quite a few years ago . Wasn't an issue for me but seemed to cause some concern for some of the younger members of our party , wasn't just in one place either seemed quite the thing to do in many of the smaller bars and clubs it meant more room to pack the punters in

The Devil in me has always pondered printing an adhesive label reading "At last, a man" and attaching it to the underside of the seat in the toilet in the hospital department I visit regularly, but I've managed to restrain myself so far......

Juvenile I know, but might raise a few smiles [or get me banned/censured].

Mate I worked with always had a quietly irreverent SoH.
Loads of fun bits signing off emails etc - but my personal fave was coming into work one morning to find a new sign on the loo entrance door.
It simply said:

"ALL TURDS HEAVIER THAN 4lbs MUST BE LOWERED BY HAND"

I dunno why, but it has always tickled me.

Sorry, mate, but that completely misses the analogy I was trying to express,
by a country mile.
In the context of my post, I was trying to suggest that the separation of the
sexes (all of them), actually serves to exacerbate and compound the very
issue it tries to address.
For example, take that stupid (and very immature IMO) video clip that's been
viral these last couple of days of the woman trying to get into her house.
I find it quite pathetic, and really quite disturbing, just how excited the nation
seemed to get, over her bo*obs being momentarily visible. Gosh, wow, OMG !!!
National breaking news - WOMAN HAS BREASTS !!!
It just demonstrates, on a (inter)national scale, what a sexually immature, prudish &
insecure society we really are.
The more normalised something is, and the closer our proximity to it, so it becomes
banal and unexciting. Ergo - safer, in general.

I was always convinced that the furore and global extremes (taking the knee etc, which always annoyed me) we saw from the "BLM" thing..... did far more to promote a racial divide - but dressed-up as though it was to address it.

There are persons whose whole social standing, importance and Living - exist because there is a Social Issue for them to champion..... so it's in their vested interest to see to it that the social issue is not resolved, but inflamed.

Raising awareness of an issue, I think, is mostly a good thing. Often things are going on
in life which we either underestimate the impact it may be having on other people, or we
are simply unaware of the existence or gravity of said issue.
It then seems to require the action, often loud & invasive, of a certain minority to bring our
attention to it. For the most part, these activists often appear to be self promoting, rather
narcissistic characters.
Perhaps that's unavoidable ?

I am firmly of the opinion that these events are DESIGNED to cause division and "pigeonholing". Divide and conquer.

At one time we were all striving for equality, a great thing. Now we are being pushed apart and equality has been redefined to mean that some sections of society are being discriminated against, in favour of another which cases more division and clashes between entrenched camps. My experience of growing up, nobody was really bothered who you were, what shade you were or what you did in private, it just wasn't an issue like it is today. There were exceptions of course, but as a general rule, that's how it was even in Birmingham.

A guy I got on well with (it helped a lot if you weren't fool enough to voice any opinions on "The Troubles" from a position of ignorance I think) - explained a few things to me - & it was exactly this.
I was told then that 99% of the NI people (on both sides) wanted it all to end - but.....

There were an awful lot of people where everything they had, & everything they were - came from being a part of "The Struggle". Gerry Adams & a few other Generals could forge themselves a nice career & position from morphing into politicians.... but the foot soldiers & their lower-tier leaders? They were all far better off if they could stir the pot & sabotage the peace process - hence it taking many, many years (& many deaths) before things improved.

Yes, there is a good example.
Another that springs to mind is Greta Thunberg (sp?), the spoilt little brat we all love to hate.
But, having said that, her exposure has, in all honesty, contributed to awakening more serious
consideration for me on how we live these days, and what legacy we may be leaving for future
generations.
Therefore, much as I want to dislike her, her family, publicists, etc; I do have to concede that
she has tangibly contributed to raising my awareness on that particular issue. In my book, that
can only be a good thing.

ETA: I still don't want to like her though.

Quite a while before BLM ever became a thing, I remember LH saying in an interview, whilst inferring that his team-mate's car was getting better preparation than his and that was the reason he wasn't winning races, saying [and I quote] "Is it 'cos I is black".

I never liked him from that moment on. Especially when 'bending the knee' happened and other drivers were [I suspect] 'shamed' into complying. I'm positive that prior to that, skin colour simply wasn't an issue for them.

Only because nobody talked about it. My landlady's nephew got stopped by the cops weekly, just because he's a large black guy. The builder who pointed my house told me that he tried to scrub his skin with Domestos as a kid because of the bullying he got. The Met is admittedly institutionally racist, the list goes on so as far as I'm concerned BLM and LH are both completely justified.

^^ Not something we see much up here afaia. Strangers acknowledge you with a nod and a smile, and even kind word if on foot, or a wave if driving on rural (single track) roads in my experience.

I have and I disagree. There was an Aussie bloke who registered multiple domains regarding various social issues and posted Facebook pages as fund raisers, but this was one bloke fraudulently getting money from any source he could. He had nothing to do with BLM. Other claims about BLM being sponsored by silicon Valley etc. turned out to be false.

Not sure on the numbers and not that bothered but the part about advertising is about normalisation, its similar with disabilities in TV adverts and dramas too. Might not effect us old folk, but to 4 and 5 year olds of today itll become the norm as the grow up! So in theory slowly reducing discrimination as time passes.

Those on TV & Advert making are either paranoid about some creature screeching "Discrimination" & ruining their career, or are using the medium to push the agenda.
It's fear & force, not just doing the job. It's rife everywhere, where decent folk have to be permanently trying to avoid the Woke "let's find anything we can to kick off about & raise a stink" brigade.

This is why you'll so rarely see a same-ethnicity couple/ heterosexual couple in adverts, why you'll see ethnic minority actors featuring in period dramas where in reality they'd never be - & so on.

Yes, the world has gone mad - you have to alter history & reality so it does not offend someone who will always be offended anyway (& has the support to make honest people suffer unless they submit).
This is not progress - it's suppression & oppression dressed up. I'm against discrimination but not this carp
