My OH works gir a University IT section - so of course all this stuff is given endless support.
She tried explaining it to me - I got wound up & retorted "stuff it - from now on then I identify as a Standard Lamp or a Chest of Drawers - cos that makes about as much sense to me!".
The thing I always think of to rationalise this kind of think is "I identify as a Millionaire - but that does not make me one".
Personally, it's no odds to me what person "identifies as" nor what pronoun they prefer. However - when it's considered to be my fault for failing to correctly guess and apply a correct pronoun when there's no way of knowing - then the ridiculousness of it all pushes my buttons, & my natural "logical & pragmatic & not always PC" personality may take over.

Perhaps a law ,yet another one,to insist that all non conformist types have to walk about with a Stick-it on their forehead proclaiming todays choice purely to avoid any embarrassing situations you understand.

I have been seen in public on a pink floral frock as it happens (it was a charity fancy-dress raft race).
A couple of our 4-man (person) team had made quite an effort - & looked just a bit too good for young hetero males.

I however - looked "like a bloke in a frock". That was fine with me.

If I had no choice but to engage with someone who required that people refer to them usimng certain pronouns I would delberately use different ones every time. If they were overtly offended it would just make me worse.

It's just a result of our sociocultural conditioning that we have separate loos.
Objectively speaking, as long as there are cubicles with doors, I don't see that it's
that important.
Additionally, it would easily solve the multi gender issue.

I think it was, though it was about 40 years after the first public Men's toilet opened that the first Ladies public loo was opened. Yes it was social convention to separate the sexes in other ways but I think women's safety, and privacy and dignity, was a major consideration with toilets, waiting rooms and so on.

It's still an issue today. Japan has women only rail carriages because of issues with male behaviour. One in 3 women UK train and tube users have been sexually harassed during their commute.

I doubt the Victorians were better behaved than people today tbh.

India has women only train carriages too - for the same reason.
I think some lines may even run women only trains?
In a slight deviation, the Namo Bharat train service which will shortly run from Shaheedabad to Duhai in Uttar Pradesh will be crewed by an all female workforce.

When it comes to pronouns, I don't care if somebody identifies as a teapot or a set of IKEA bookshelves. Each to their own, one life, live it.

Far better to be open about this kind of stuff than bottle it up. Doesn't take much effort to call them what they want, so what's the problem?

I really can't see why people are triggered by this stuff, especially with the amount of really important horrible stuff that's going down. It's almost like the press that keep this in the public eye want to distract people from what is important...

I've been to a fantastic nightclub in Amsterdam called the supper club. It doesn't have male and female toilets, instead it has hetero and homo toilets. I've also been to a carp nightclub in Camden, or was it Brixton, that the girls toilets were so packed that girls were in the gents peeing in the sink while you were stood at the urinals. Neither bothered me, but the ones in Amsterdam were far more civilised

I respect the right of any person to see themself however they please, to dress, behave etc (in terms of gender) however they please but I also have the right to decide for myself how I see that person and I reserve the right to not subscribe to the idea of non-binary or gender-neutrality because that is my right.

Fair enough, as I said, each to there own. Opinions tend to change when it's somebody you know and love that is asking. I was given a variety of pronouns while working at BT, some are still in use

One of my best friends is gay, and i have drunk down the pup with him for over 30 years, he once told me he fancied me, said i was flattered but i preferred girls, but not one of our group has ever felt the need to make anything of it, hes gay, so what?
Do not understand this need to "announce" their identity, its almost like they want attention?
Have no problem what anyone wants to be if its between consenting adults, dont need/want to know about it, and does not mean i have to join in with their delusion or condone their actions either.

Do have a problem when a 20 stone rapist identifies as a woman so he gets sent to female prison and rapes the other inmates, or people think that starting a gender identity club at school for 12 year olds is OK and start encouraging them to explore their identities!! when a young persons mind has not fully developed well past school age.

Likewise. It's funny, one day I asked him why he had never got married. He said "Don't you know?". Well I didn't and it had never occurred to me, not even when he letched after the Leo Sayer lookalikes at the ice skating rink. Nobody cared and nobody needed to proclaim their individuality to the world.

i had a customer who insisted on being addressed as Major >>>>>>>> I always enjoyed using the Mr. Eventually he had a go at me and I reminded him I was a civvy and also I was a 6 'r in the cubs but didn't use that after I grew up and left.

We had one of those, When I suggested that he had not made his mark on civilian life he got quite upset.

My favourite ones were " Founder member of the Romney Marsh Mountain Rescue Team" and the " Member of the Sahara Sub Aqua Society" Nobody ever questioned them which was a shame.

That reminds me of my Dad, who had several similar T-shirts - Norfolk Broads Potholing Club and Goodwin Sands Mountain Rescue being the ones I can find.
