To offer a contradicting opinion (albeit perhaps controversial on here) I like it. I think it's polite to refer to someone how they want to be referred and it makes absolutely no difference to me. Same as asking a Joseph if they want to be called Joe.

Why does it even matter? I know you lot have got enough unfinished projects - stop worrying about this daily mail culture war carp and get back to them!

I was thinking the same……..I used to have a college who identified as a jus woman what ever that means. I never bothered to ask. I didn't care as long as she did her job. She didnt last long!

I see it more now. It's unnecessary information in an email.

In the same vein I may as well update my signature with my shoe size, width of my drive and current thermostat setting

Yes that's it, unnecessary stuff to be adding onto already unnecessary emails in most cases! Yes it's typically from larger companies but it does appear optional too. Ie: some of the staff members have it and others don't so it must be an opt in or out type deal.

It doesn't offend me nor should it anyone else.

It's just what box is being ticked that someone thinks this is useful information to add I got to wonder.

Personally I have altered my email sig at work to shorten it waaayyyy down to the bare minimum it has to be. Otherwise you end up with endless stuff to scroll through. I get around 100 - 150 emails per day so less is more IMO.

My emails at work just have 'cheers Brian' at the end. So do my personal ones tbf. I like to be referred to as Brian so that's what I use. I don't use any of the letters I have as I feel it is a little pretentious. If someone asks to be referred to as something, then I am happy to oblige. If they don't I use whatever they have put. It's all beyond my pay grade to be honest!

Don't do it. Listing your pronouns is basically admitting you subscribe to the idea that we all have an innate gender identity that might or might not be the same as our sex. It's a metaphysical belief for which there is no proof. Gender identity is just made up nonsense that relies on stereotypes, and nobody should be giving this stuff any legitimacy by falling in line with the pronouns demands.

Added to which if you look on social media lots of employers say if they see pronouns listed on a CV or letter it's an automatic No from them because they know the applicants will be more trouble than they are worth.

Referring to Joseph as Joe is inconsequential and merely polite. I believe what we’re discussing is different.

I have qualms (just that, nothing more) that the practice is creating a confusing world for children and mentally vulnerable people, and may lead them into regrettable decisions. The NHS will have to pick up the bill at each stage. Similarly, there is the problem of men invading women’s spaces. At the very least, we should give a thought to the consequences of this.
