has anyoned tried the lincon speed tech 200

I've been looking at getting a mig set to repair my genset welder do sheet metal do a few cars repairs doubt ill be able to structure steel but I got a three phase one for That its more for home uses I like the thermal arc stuff more but if I can get Lincoln local id go for that I just want something I can move easily around the shed and to the drive way I've got a bust 135 clake welder and a 3phase kempi at dads so I wanna know if what Jodie recommends is good or not sorry for the long winded convo

Ok,see your point.I would go on the Internet and look at the good and bad bits of the machine you want to purchase.Look at Duty Cycle etc.Before you jump in and buy a machine sit back an post your thoughts on our site

They're a good machine but in my opinion it's well over priced when you consider the fact you can get a oerlikon citomig 200 for around £950 Inc VAT, a GYS multi pearl 200 for around £850 or even perhaps a Kemppi minarc for just shy of a grand. You'll be able to do 5-6mm easily with any of those machines.

Take a look about at your options, plenty of these types of machines on the market.

The Lincoln is arguably better made than any of the others Tom mentioned but I would say it doesn't weld the best. I found it to be a little coarse compared to the Kemmpi, EWM and GYS, not tried a Citomig but I have run all the others. Also the user interface is clunky but the build quality is pretty bombproof.

I'd agree about build quality but for ease of user interface and weld quality I'd say that either the oerlikon or the GYS are best bets under a grand

Well the thing is guy my local supplier only stocks Lincoln stuff thermal arc stuff and jasic stuff and if I have problems with it I can just get it sorted

I've used one of the 1st generation speed techs when they were introduced at an exhibition and I wouldn't say it was better build quality than all the ones Tom mentioned. The kemppi minarc Mig is easily as good and well built as is the caddy Mig 200. They just don't hold the bigger spools or have a euro torch but lower build quality they ain't. Can't comment on the gys and as for the city Mig I did have a play but not long enough or in depth enough to comment either.

You don't deal with kemppi Jim.
How many of those have you had in bits? I'm coming at it from a usage point of view not an inside the guts point. I've used a lot and know quality when it's in my hand. The kemppi was a real solid industrial Mig to use. I was more impressed with it than the Lincoln from that point of view.

My dad has a old school single phase kempi welder transformer type its good but its heavy and I want my own set at some point i am more stick oriented but like I said I will be restoring a gen set welder at some point in my life but I do need something that I can use at home move from the shed to the front to weld up cars maybe do a few skips and lorry bodies for dad. I've looked at you tube and found the American adverts Jodie loves them and some other guy who repairs farm equipment. In mig I wanna know if I had the choice between the thermal arc 211 I and the 180-200 speed tec Lincoln what range of thickness of material can I weld up in mig even if I do some structure steel 6mm plates 10 mm plates tacking up what ranges will I get

Your top end for a 200 amp Mig is roughly 6 MM steel 4mm on aluminium. I'm talking about welding it properly though. You can stick a splat on anything but those are its "welding" limits.
Have you looked at millers contender here. Probably one of the best single phase Mig inverter out there and at 220 amps you have 10% extra oomph. Pulse settings etc. It's pricey though at a good lump over a grand.
It's the one I'm desperate to try out now more than any other having heard such awesome things about it.

6 mm is more than plenty if I need the extra power ill transport it to dads and use the 3 phase kempi or when restored my gen set 300 amp Lincoln but I do the odd skip for dad or lorry bodie I am thinking of buying a old truck also at some point so may need to do a bit of chassie work again if need be tack and stick weld up I probs don't need a 3 in one but it was in my local and again its more if I can get good kit local then if there is a problem I can return it plus I like the size of that style

Plenty, and they don't impress me from s service point of view.
