Has anyone used sandtex paint on machines i.e drills lathes etc

I have a tin of dark green sandtex paint been laying around a while and not gonna be used.
I also have a bench drill that is crying out for a coat of paint.
Now the sandtex is "supposed" to be one coat but I don't mind giving it a couple etc.
it says on the tin for wood and for metal and exterior !!!

now I cant find out what type of paint it is, ????
is this any good to put straight on the metal like it says on the can ?
is it going to fall off metal in a short while.
I know its very good on mdf that's for sure, and takes a bit of of a bashing on that.
but never used it on metal at all.

I'd use it, it's just like an enamel gloss paint.

Most of these paints have a shelf life so if it's old it may be past it's best especially if it's been already opened.

I have actually used that stuff years ago on wood and a garage door and in those circumstances it was good - I'm assuming it's the pre voc legislation version.

Are you sure it says use with no primer? Or is the wording no undercoat? They are 2 different things.

just seen it says use a primer on bare metal
its an oil based paint.

Up to you really whether you want to use it. Don't think it will be as good as paints purely designed for steel and then has it gone past it's best due to it's age and being opened.

and there was me thinking ive saved a few quid and found a good use for my paint

now I am going to have to make something that needs green paint just to use up my sandtex paint.

I bet a new paint is gonna cost atleast £5 a gallon too

People keep going on about the metal paint that Aldi sell on here, supposed to be dirt cheap and pretty good.

I think there was recent thread saying it's back in stock.
