Has anyone ever done coded welds training? ,some colleges in my area do night courses in training to a coded standard i was wondering if anyone on here has done it?
Middlesbrough buddy,why?Where are you based?
I’m too far away to help you but the TWI would be your best place, probably expensive, if it’s going to open doors for you career wise and you’ve got a job lined up then it may be worth it, but if you haven’t got anything lined up easy bits getting coded, hard bits getting a job with no experience, if you’re a competent welder go straight for 6G, the instructor shall see how you progress after a day or two...Middlesbrough buddy, why?
I work as a welder mate just not coded ,heres my vert on scrap earlier onI’m too far away to help you but the TWI would be your best place, probably expensive, if it’s going to open doors for you career wise and you’ve got a job lined up then it may be worth it, but if you haven’t got anything lined up easy bits getting coded, hard bits getting a job with no experience, if you’re a competent welder go straight for 6G, the instructor shall see how you progress after a day or two...
I’ve seen a lot worse from Welders, can you not get your firm to take you on as an improver/welder and get them to get you upto coded standard, a good attitude as I think you have goes a long way!Vertical
They wont train me up to do nothing thats just what iv picked up ,thats why im practising to get into a decent firm ,im hopefulI’ve seen a lot worse from Welders, can you not get your firm to take you on as an improver/welder and get them to get you upto coded standard, a good attitude as I think you have goes a long way!
Well then certainly don’t go and get any codes. They wont train me up to do nothing thats just what iv picked up ,thats why im practising to get into a decent firm ,im hopeful
Iv got my level 3 bud ,just had to get in with a small firm first but now wanting to move onWell then certainly don’t go and get any codes.
If your looking to go into a different firm you could be waiting a while before one turns up and even then the code you get may not cover the work the new firm does. You could argue that with a 6G code you’ll be more than covered but then you might be over qualified for the new job and they may not want to keep you updated with that code so again your self funding it or down grading it. Also with 6G you risk paying not to pass it because that’s a very skilled position to get. My advice i can’t stress enough is go to college (night classes or day release) and earn a recognised qualification in welding and fab to get you through the doors and pass initial weld tests. Let the firms sort out your codings. I’ve known guys spend lots of money to add codes to there cv’s and in 6 months have to take them off cos they didn’t use them in time or the firm didn’t require those codes so they were not supported. A code runs out in 12months if you can prove you’ve been welding on a frequent basis to that code. If you can’t its 6 months then a complete re code.
Im 23 ,been to college n done level 3 then been working at a little company building tipper vans and underframes for 2 yearsI’m not sure what your personal situation is but if you’re young enough there are firms that will train you up, I know Babcocks were taking on mature apprentices a few years back, there must be places near you for example Caterpillar that train people up that are older than school leaving age.
A guy I know used to only take on mature apprentices (late twenties/early thirties) and send them to tech for one day a week as they were willing to learn and their heads were not full of nonsense.
