Hi all.
I've had troubles with my L5A's clutch ever since I bought it, but recently its getting unusable. There seems to be a reasonable amount of meat on the plate and I have adjusted it according to the book, but have had no luck. That said, the parts diagram in my book seems to differ from what I actually have.
The movement of the clutch lever feels sloppy but stiff at the same time and just doesn't feel right, certainly not a nice positive movement. It also likes to pop out of the disengaged position quite often. If I crank the tension up on the spring, it simply won't disengage properly and drags when in neutral, but if I loosen it slightly, it works fine, until it gets warm, then it will intermittantly slip, not under load, but just with the chuck spinning freely. It will be spinning fine, then you will hear the note of the motor change and the chuck will slow down slightly for 1/2 second, then pick up again, then maybe slow almost to a stop, then pick up again, then slow a bit, then pick up. You get my point. If I disengage the clutch and let it idle for a minute, it will then run for a minute or so before starting to slip again.
Anyone stripped a L5A clutch down before? Got any thoughts. I've pulled most of the outside bits off, cleaned it all down, regreased the roller bearing and put it back together.
