How is the original 'belt tensioner' meant to work? is it just the weight of the motor that pulls down, then tighten the bolts on the mounts? Or is there meant to be another way of tensioning the belt?
Had to make a couple of brackets to move the (replaced single phase) motor over so the motor/clutch pulleys lined up, can think of a couple of ways to tension the belt, by adding more brackets and either tightening the long bolts or adding nuts to the long bolts to put tension on but this is how it is now

there's a filter/gauze above the spindle (highlighted in pic) in the headstock, is the purpose to filter or slow down the oil? wondering what to replace it with?

so yours has the same oilway around the edge leading to above the spindle but no filter/gauze type thing?
Mine doesn't have one eitherfound this video - more modern 140 lathe but same design, does show there's supposed to be a filter but the guy in the video didn't seem bothered about the lack of one on his lathe... ive timestamped the link
