Then time for a bit of fun. Adding bits! I actually cleaned out the rivet holes with a 1.5mm drill bit in a hand drill - the slow speed is ideal. Then I put the serial plaque on, the name badge, water trough, grease caps etc. I’ll take them off for painting but good morale boost for now

Couldn’t find BSW (proper) so this will have to do. The old hardware was proper munted.

Oops. Yep, I have too many projects. I’m trying to thin out the shelves of spares, and came across all the bits for this lovely machine. Here goes another attempt at putting it back together…

Today I cleaned the felt bushes that go next to the bearings. They come up well with a dip in some petrol and a gentle wire brushing. Then a topcoat for the main casting. Bearings I have, and one is back in. I’m properly useless at time management when it’s my own machines

My abandoned projects all have one thing in common - a point at which I gave up! Incidentally I usually forget why I gave up, drag it all out and then go ‘oh yeah…’.

Right, off to right a wrong. Damaged thread, rusted steel insert with a piece of broken bolt stuck in (no before pic). Drilled out to size, tapped to 1/2bsw, a plug made up and fitted with a fibre washer, job done

Still needs filling and priming. Endless, thankless task. It’s another job down, though.

I think that’s all I can do for now. I need electrical components to rebuild the switch (actually making push-buttons that go behind the iron cover, will be a bit of a project), the motor requires a pulley and there’s not much point in fitting it just yet since I have to do all the wiring which is much easier without it installed

I’m going to be changing the green paint to red. Pedantic I know, but it’s something that I always felt looked a bit off. Lots and lots of filling to do as well. I might still be off work with this lockdown nonsense, I’ll have to see what sandpaper I can get delivered as I’m out.

There’s another grinder at the back of the shed. I honestly don’t know why I bought it, though it is quite nice. The Union has a lot more class than the NI.

Thread resurrection.

The mental illness continues. Guards are already at a mates place being grafted to that NI machine.

The Union machine is still unfinished but is in use! I’ll finish it one day.

The Milford grinder is set to become a buffing machine. Follow for updates…

I nearly bought a big pedestal grinder a while back. Lack of space stopped me, and the cost of big new wheels was more than the grinder itself. Are you replacing wheels or using the ones it came with?

A whole new chapter awaits the new machine. Stones are gone, it’s engineering time (next weekend, after I’ve done my next five days at work!).

Ok so I sold the new grinder

Someone at work said they’d been after one to do a buffing machine conversion on, and honestly I just said ok, have it. I honestly have too many projects anyway!
