harris/smiths regulators

hey all, not been on here in awhile.

just have a quick question, does anyone know if harris/smiths/american oxy acetylene regulators will fit on British cylinders? the American makers call the fittings CGA510 on the acetylene and CGA540 on the oxygen, can't work out if they will go on British cylinders or not, but they seem to make much better regulators than we have here these days... so basically is the CGA510/540 the same as 5/8" BSP.

100views no responses :/ if no one knows the answer to that how about it possibility of fitting the stems and nuts for british bottles to harris/smith regulators.

Or are there some nice all brass old fashioned style british regulators available somewhere that i haven't seen?

yeah that's the others i was looking at before but the harris 2500s look really really nice like the boc gear from the 50s haha oh well.

I have a Harris Regulator on my acetylene bottle, I will have a look at it later and see if there is any sign of it coming from The US and any size for the fittings.

Just a thought, have you tried emailing the manufacturers for clarification?

We sometimes supply Harris regs with our machines. They are an american company (poss owned by Lincoln) but the quality is very good.

Harris are owned by Lincoln yes, but I believe the European equipment is made in Europe & different to the US made versions, ie.different cylinder connections.

thanks for the info, yeah i haven't been able to find the harris 2500s regs in the uk (the ones i wanted really) harris do one that is really similar to my old butbro ones with a chrome bit behind the knob, that seem to be a uk model, but to be honest i don't much like the butbros, they came in a good package when i was getting my first set, but i wouldn't get them again, though their torches are really nice i was just looking around for ones to replace them and i'm in no hurry so i was looking for something really nice to use, and the harris ones look like real quality. last night i did come across a listing for the harris 25s on a uk shop so i guess they must have uk fittings http://www.weldmet.co.uk/product_info.php/cPath/44_51/products_id/1650
i may get those they'd probably last for ever anyway haha think they're quite abit cheaper in the us though.

Harris is a Lincoln company. Phone the head office 0114 2872401 and ask for Harris.

thanks a lot guys, might just give him a call when i have a bit more cash i have the feeling their regulators will be very expensive over here :/
and i just got a load of aluminium welding rods and flux haha aluminium welding with oxy acetylene isn't as hard as i though it would be for the things people say about it heh
