Ha I had my trials bike in the kitchen and my wife came home and was screaming WHO WOULD HAVE A MOTORBIKE IN THE KITCHEN !!!!!!!!
I said thats NORMAL ? her responce was akin to------ no its not------!!!you can fill in the missing words

Here's a bike a friend of mine made for me when I gave him an old oil cooled welder. He is a fitter and used bits out of the bin at work. It looks good on the mantelpiece. There's a Harley Fat Boy with a factory custom paint job in my friend's shop, not my cup of tea but it does look the part.

I like those wheel bearings used as wheels very imaginative! Wheres the exhausts? Its a chunky little thing, rightly named 'fatboy'!

I've began making the structure of the fuel tank, and have began making the front forks of the bike, the really fiddly bits are butt welding homemade hair pin eyelets onto the end of a short length of 4mm steel rod to make the axle mounting point at the end of the forks.

Theres some 0.8mm mig wire thrown in there for scale of task :/

Why not just flatten (hammer or vice) the end of the rod then drill it? or even just weld the axle to the bottom of the forks.

Just wanted the more better looking finish, plus I want to paint up the wheels, and other components before finally fitting them together, just to reduce the number of hard to reach areas The weight of the wheels would mean it would be tricky to hold it all level to weld it up.

I might make and improvisation at some point and attempt spoked wheels so these need to be able to come off the bike easily to swap them over.

..Another update!

Tank has been finished, filled and smoothed and baked to remove any water from the wet sanding stage. Its ready for paint now.

I thought I'd fit up the wheels to the chassis to see how it looked...Its gonna be big! Its around 11 or 12 inches long, and it already looks like a custom sportser (which is a bonus!)

Going to begin work on the engine at somepoint, will need to get that in place before mounting the tank, just for the extra finger and torch space.

I have ideas on the engine... Just need to source some nice looking tubing for the exhausts.

I was thinking about the wheels on this last night, had you thought about skate board wheel for the rear and an inline skate wheel for the front. Have a little google to see what i mean

I hadn't actually thought of that, I've gone and made these wheels now. Maybe next time on anothe bike.

You think thats sad? I've got one or two better..according to my other half, she tells me I talk in my sleep...the other night it was something like 'you need more shielding gas, your welds are pretty porous, the bubbles in the weld, more gas needed'....

I need my head testing...

Hello everyone, not really done much for a few nights, but last night i'd chosen the colour for the tank, mudguards etc Its known as 'Copper red' a car paint in a premixed areosol can, mazda brand, just borrowed it from work

The mud guard is all hand made of course along withe the tank.

Yeah, how off putting would that be? Naturally my other half just rolls hers eyes at anything to do with my welding, 'boys and there toys' she says, just like most women would.

Sorry I've not been doing much on this project, the cold nights have been putting me off getting into the shed and making progress, (well, that and having MIG issues, and the angle grinder dying abruptly I'm at the point of making the seat, and mounting on the rear mudguard, The engine shall come last, last night I put the wheels on and made a start on the upper forks, its beginning to take shape very well, I can almost see what the finished product will look like.

Thats got to be hard getting things in scale on a project like this,so here are a couple of pics,one a stock sportster,the other a heavily modified sportster with a built frame(work in progress);
& I know what its like building in the shed in this cold,so I do it in the front room...

Thanks Geoff, I've been reverting t squinting at pictures on google images t try and pieces together what shapes things are, and how they go on to the bike, thank you for these two close ups, These will prove very useful, thanks again!

Well, firstly, its been a while since I have posted up on here, as i've been up to other things and having my mig break on me AND the angle grinder, the mig was a cheap fix of re-soldering the circuit board and the grinder had no brushes left so bought a new one. Heres the progress now..
