Maybe one for Snowy/Hitch

Job to make an attachment to fit to a quick hitch. 13T 360. Basically a specially shaped attachment for forming a particular profile in the ground ahead of a slip forming machine laying concrete gutters. Hardox has been asked for on the details, but no grade/spec. Asked the question, but they don't know.
Whats best to use/what different grades are there/Rough idea of cost.

Snowy or Tino probably be able to advise better than me on this one, Hardox comes in various grades, 400, 500,600, and a few others, the number is the hardness (brinel)
I gather the harder it is, the more prone to cracking in use it might be, something like that, id imagine one from the middle of the range? say the 500?

Use a fair bit of Hardox 400 in work stick it all together with lo-hi's.

If you cut it with a lamp you get a couple of mil softened next to the cut, and also next to the weld.

Have used 600, but a bit brittle and needs stainless rods to stick it together.

We also Drill 400 with tungsten carbide tipped broaches

We use 400 for ground engaging cultivator legs,not sure of price but the last lot we had come was £40,000 but that was half a dozen 6mx2m sheets

Just pondering which grade to use really - it's not going to be exposed to that much wear, more resistance to ripping big lumps out of the ground and the forces it will be exposed to.
Then again, don't want it too hard that it cracks.

Paul 400, is a fairly standard grade on earth moves, If its a for re-handling then I go to a higher grade especially on toes, Weldox is another option and can be used to form sidewalls etc......

I get most of my Hardox weldox toes and adapters from ITS track, I can dig out there no.....also you get a good calender at chrimbo, them lasses must be chilly.....


If you have a design and an exact app, I could give you my two penth for whats it worth.....

Theres also quite a bit of procedure in welding this stuff, preheat inter pass and consumables, thats a minefield, but on the MIG I run FCAW and Metal cored, and stick its strictly hi los, important to weld to sequence as well.......
