I mentioned in another thread I am planning to make my first welding project a simple kindling splitter and it will look something like this:
It will screw onto the top of a log stood on its end and the blade across the top will be toughened tool steel. To give you an idea of size all pieces are 6mm x 50mm x 150mm.
Am I advised to toughen and temper the blade before welding or do the welding first then the hardening? I can see possible pros and cons for either way, so any advice would be most welcome.
