Can anyone tell me either a particular brand or just generically the type of clear coat that I need to investigate further...
I am looking for a very hard wearing scratch resistant clear sealant to put over burnished graphite paste (stove blacking) that I sometimes I apply to my ironwork. Preferably a satin or matt clear finish, but if it comes up glossy it's not the end of the world as I can put something over it to dull it down a bit.
Curved curtain poles that I made from 20mm hollow tube are one of the main items I'm looking to apply this finish to as I often don't install them and clients / their handymen often scratch them to high heaven whilst installing and leave bright scratch marks over the poles. (Typically whilst positioning the brackets).
I guess it's going to need to be a spray can of some type because if I apply it by brush, the solvents in the sealant will smudge/lift the graphite paste I've already applied.
I much prefer the look of graphite paste to black paint, so I don't want to just paint the poles/brackets/finails. I have tried using multiple coats of a Halfords (or similar) 1k rattle can over graphite paste, followed by at least 2 coats of Renaissance Wax, but those multiple layers still don't prevent scratches.
Thanks in advance
