Hand rail material

Hi All

My nan lives in a static home and has no hand rails leading down the stairs out of the house. She has asked if i can make her a set of handrails to go down the side of the steps. My questions are:

1. What building regs do i need to consider (is it part K)

2. What material do people use on here for the actual hand rail?

Handrails, basic ones, normally out of 12mm rod, 40x10 base rail and 50mm HRSE top rail.
Its called 'half round square edge' but thats a bit of a lie, its convex, about the same radius as a bean can...? with a 5/6mm flat side.

Regs wise, no idea if static homes are covered by such things, but 100mm sphere rule, and 900mm heights are a good basis to work from anyway.

Not sure if B regs is relevant to a static home, but Part K gives you the information you need to decide if it is or not.
I'd use CHS section for the handrail top. From memory it has to be between 40 and 50mm dia. I'd use 42.4mm OD. 48.3mm OD seems a bit large sometimes. As long as you have no gaps larger than 100mm, the infill can be made more or less how you want....Although the 100mm rule is probably not relevant here.
I have the insider knowledge on the 100mm rule now...
