Throatless shear? Assuming that's the style you mean the top of the fixed blade is convex which makes them very good at cutting curves as well as straight.
The origional Beverley shear is a fantastic thing but you don't want to know what they cost new! I've been on the look out for a second hand one for ages and finally gave in and bought a cheapnese copy earlier this year. While it's usable it's also VERY crap... hours of faffing around with the pivots, blade retention/adjusters and blades themselves to get it cutting well was kinda expected given it cost less than £80. It really needs the pivot holes cleaning up and bushing to stay slop free in the long term though. Oh, and the blades are made of chocolate. Again i knew that'd be the case but as i work with ally mostly...
