Someone need 'pro' tips on Hammerite..?

Today I acquired...........

Day five and I've had enough...:eyepatch: Get yourself some dioralyte or the tesco generic. Otherwise you will dehydrate badly! Failing that an isotonic drink and eat some bananas!

I still have half a 2.5l can of post box red Smoothrite that I bought in the mid 80s to paint the girlfriend's RD350 frame. It never did get done, but the paint comes out every so often when I need to brighten something up.

Hammerite is now owned bu Akzo-nobel, which also aquired ICI and dulux, it has of course been reformulated and is nothing like the Finnegans paints product, I never buy the modern stuff, but you still come across NOS which is worth buying. you can buy good value hammer finish from the net, I paid about £40 for a 5ltr of green last year!

Well I opened the tins today and was surprised/pleased to see the colour is a lot deeper than the picture on the (bigger) tin indicated.

The smaller one seems more like the Violet colour but the big one looks like Cadbury's Purple to me

Paint a small test piece on something!

I used Flag brand hammered paint a good few years ago on my galvanised gate frame. First I painted the frame with Hammerite Special Metals Primer. It's lasted well.

I also rate the hammered paints from Firwood. Used to get through loads at work. Don't miss the Xylene headaches though.

Am a bit late with this but....

Yesterday I went to Glasgow to buy something from Gumtree and mentioned to the guy about buying the Hammerite in Edinburgh the day before.

We did the deal and I set off in car and then he rang to say he had a small tin of light blue. I didn't go back cos

1. I shouldn't have been on phone while driving
2.I already have blue Hammerite
3. I had no cash on me and was also in a rush to do various other things

Anyway I get home and the guy has sent me pics of it and said he didn't want any money for it, Wish I'd went back now.

Looks like it's another discontinued colour and judging by the graphics it's perhaps from 90s

I had a search there and looks like you can still get Flag stuff - in 4 colours (black, green, silver, blue)

The Firwood stuff seems harder to obtain as you get taken to a Trimite site and it looks like they are more geared towards industrial customers
