Been looking to match some Hammerite (a sort of light green) that was used in a machine re-build back in the early 70's and I am now re-building it again.
Turns out Hammerite has been sold to ICI, who changed the formulation and kept the name. It always used to be Xylene based but now it is white spirit based with the result that it drys slower and isn't as hard when set. As a side issue they've discontinued that colour.
Ney mind, eBay has come to the rescue with a Xylene based hammer finish paint that isn't Hammerite but seems to be the right colour! Has anyone on the forum used these 'non Hammerite' paints - are they any good?
