Can't go wrong with the Halfords stuff imo, Had the 150 piece set or whatever it is for years! Flared a spanner once, But got it exchanged under warranty. Could of been miss use, But no questions asked! Also its good that if you do have an issue there's always a Halfords nearby when you need to sort something out at a weekend or evening!

Not sure if it's the same set, but we bought my son a similar socket & ratchet spanner set when he got a car at 18, he's 41 now & all still good except for what he's lost! The only thing that let it down was on the plastic case there was no hinge, just the thin plastic bent & this broke in the end, I don't know if they still do it that way though.

Their "Advanced Professional" stuff is decent, some of the other sets are a bit suspect.
The carry cases can be ok but check hinges and catches (some have decent hinges some don't, some have proper catches but my set just has a plastic tab that soon snapped off)
I applied for a trade card last week and was surprised what trades qualify and how little proof they want - discount varies but I think some tools are 20% off, other stuff up to 50% off.
If you buy tools in their regular "Hlaf price sale" then get another 20% off ...

go for it, plenty good enough.......have a set of their prof. swivel head ratchet spanners and a few sockets.........used everyday with no probs........

I've had the 150 piece for 5+ years, haven't broken anything yet and I'm not always kind to them. Case is pretty pants though, the hinge comes apart and bits fall out of their pockets when carrying but I'd prefer a decent affordable tool in a cheap case to the other way round.

I use a lot of their stuff too, ratchet spanners are good but not quite as good as they used to be they are getting marginally thicker around the ratchet.

Yes they had the big kit on special offer a while back and I paid about 75 quid for it, I was quite amazed at the price for what it is. OK I don't use it every day but its never put a foot wrong when I have.
I see its on at 175 quid and I know I paid a lot less than that

(edit) of course last time I used it I noticed there was a gap in the range of 1/4 deep sockets that I needed to use from my normal tool kit either 9mm or 11mm isn't supplied so I had to use a different one.

It’s decent gear and unless you lose it you got it for life as they will replace broken tools without a hassle in store.
It doesn’t need to be as good as good as snap on. It’s a privately owned socket set that’s going to do everything you ask of it. You wouldn’t get 1 ratchet for £60 from snap on so I’d say that’s a really good deal.

Only thing I feel lets them down is the lack of 6 point sockets.

I bought a big Halfords socket set when I started doing up a vintage tractor - They have taken some reasonably heavy work, including being 'tapped' with a hammer to get some larger stubborn nuts to start to turn.
Not industrial usage, but i'm really happy with home - they are nice to use too.

Got a little set to shove under the van seat, great for the sale price and you don't need to keep the receipt as they will email you one so you've always got it if you want to replace damaged stuff.
Got a trade card dead easy just said l was a mechanic..they aren't bothered.
Always save a couple of quid, especially on own brand stuff , oil, batteries bulbs ect.
Was working in a valve tower at a reservoir once, another contractor turned up with a cracking Snap on socket set, he stuck a socket on his ratchet, started to work on the valve,ping, the socket popped off, fell through the steel grating,hit the next four floors on the way down and finished with a little plop.
I had to turn away.
He just said it doesn't matter I'll just claim a full set from work.
Whatever.
We carried on with our cheapo set.

Mine did that as well so I just screwed some metal hinges on and it's as good as new
Got the 150piece set about 5 years ago in the sales, I bought the trays Halfords sell that fit into their toolsets draws so don't use the case they are brilliant. Got a lot of Snap On and I would say whilst not quite as good quality given the guarantee they are as good for most uses. I broke the 1/4 ratchet and an impact socket both replaced no questions asked.
